  • Seaweed McTweed is a delightful tale of a homely sea monster in want of friends. He's struggling with all the ways his outside appearance seems to block others from seeing or appreciating who he really is on the inside. This is something that many of us deal with in various ways but it is especially difficult for children in their formative years. It's that old difficulty of trying to fit in while remaining true to oneself. I trust you will enjoy this hopeful tale of a sea monster in need of a friend. Please note. 12 years plus was  the timeline for the making of this critically-acclaimed novel. Nappa was deeply immersed in the life, poetry and world of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow from 2002 until June 14th, 2017 when it was officially released on his 59th birthday. It garnered early praises while he worked on it as his thesis in the MFA Creative Writing program at Queens University in Charlotte and even more upon its completion and release. Here's a summary from the jacket: Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was enormously famous in his day. Adults and children celebrated his poems, both in America and abroad. He was the first American poet admitted into the Poets’ Corner of Westminster Abbey in England and was renowned for such works as “Hiawatha,” “Paul Revere’s Ride,” “Evangeline,” “Tales of a Way-side Inn” and others. However, his amazing life was wrought with trials and heartaches during an era when America was laboring to grow up without destroying itself in the process. What Longfellow Heard is a powerful telling, in many of the words and musings of the poet himself, of his tragic quest for love and family, his longing for art and fame, and his heartbreaking losses. Discover how his art and faith wrestled within him while he desperately tried to make peace with the tumult of his times. Experience the tragedy of his first marriage, his long road to recovery, and his passion for the woman he pursued for seven years while the nation fractured and his poetry soared. What Longfellow Heard is a novel with profound relevance to our modern-day polarization, increasingly clouded national identities, and the universal aching for peace, joy, and purpose in the midst of conflict and confusion. REVIEWS

“It’s one of the very few I looked forward to getting back to when I had to put it down. Nappa offers such a wonderful sense of scene—the death when Clara comes in, the first meeting with Fanny, that fantastic scene with the landlady and canker worms. The author shows a great eye for the particularizing detail.” —NAEEM MURR, author of The Boy, The Genius of the Sea, and The Perfect Man. “One of the main pleasures I have in these pages is the way Nappa brings the flavor of Longfellow’s language into his own prose. The period feels vividly imagined, from the clothes and the furnishings to the way people speak and write to each other in letters… The world of this novel is very compelling and made me care about Longfellow in a way I would not have expected.” —ZACHARY LAZAR, author of Sway and I Pity the Poor Immigrant. “I really liked it. Henry comes vibrantly to life in these pages, and the way Nappa massages in Longfellow’s poetry and writing process is very deft.” —RICHARD RUSSO, Pulitzer Prize-winning, best-selling author of Empire Falls, Nobody’s Fool, Bridge of Sighs, and many others. “Jon Nappa’s Longfellow is remarkable. The book does an amazing job of humanizing Henry. It works brilliantly.” —SHAYE AREHEART, founder/editor of the Shaye Areheart imprint of Crown Books The challenge: tell a convincing tale in the voice of one of America’s most lauded wordsmiths. Talk about setting a high bar for yourself as a writer! But Nappa is more than up to the task. Writing with passion, compassion, wit, and erudition, Nappa delivers a compelling story laced with poetry and real insight into Longfellow’s life and his art. Best of all, it inspired me to re-examine the poet’s work, and with far greater depth and appreciation than before. —ROY SEKOFF, founding editor of The Huffington Post, and creator of HuffPost Live, its awardwinning live streaming video network. Nappa's first-person prose is earthy and rich, yet highly polished. The narrative voice is so authentic that the period-appropriate language does not distract from the book's liveliness or humor. Dialogue is a particular strength, as Nappa's fine ear brings animation and individuality to every character, including those with the smallest parts to play. Though based on the historical record of Longfellow's life, the emotional depth of Nappa's work makes it feel original and enlightening. Pitch-perfect in its voice and deeply sympathetic to its title character, the novel is an engaging and vivid portrait of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's journey from childhood to immortality. —THE BOOKLIFE PRIZE, 2017

In 2007, NavPress published my original historical fiction novel, Storm Warriors. It went well and resulted in the founding of an International not-for-profit devoted to inspiring people to get involved rescuing others. The book was based on true-life rescues in the 1800s and the invention of the first unsinkable lifeboat in England. It is an exciting read enjoyed by many historical fiction enthusiasts but also people inspired by history and humanitarian themes. The book begs a larger question: What does it take for anyone to risk his or her life for others? Unfortunately, due to reasons unrelated to the book, NavPress did not remain in the fiction publishing business, and the book failed to receive the kind of marketing and sales support that might have helped it grow a larger audience. These days, the book has been reissued by Storm Warriors International and is packaged with the sequel, Storm Survivors. The books are proving very popular with those who have read them and help to draw continuing interest to the ongoing work of Storm Warriors International. You can find out more at stormwarriors.org and track updates here by looking for the Storm Warriors tag on these posts. After another project of mine, the Longfellow book (see posts tagged as Longfellow), is released in 2015, I am hopeful that Storm Warriors and Storm Survivors will be picked up by the same publisher, attracting new and larger audiences. In the meantime, you can check out the books here in just a few weeks (in both e-book and traditional formats) – you won’t be disappointed.

In 2007, NavPress published Storm Warriors, the original historical fiction novel first written by Nappa. It went well and resulted in the founding of an International not-for-profit organization (Storm Warriors International) devoted to inspiring people to get involved rescuing others. The original book was based on true-life rescues in the 1800s and the invention of the first unsinkable lifeboat in England. It remains a popular and exciting read enjoyed by numerous and avid readers today, but is also appreciated by a growing number of people who are inspired by humanitarian themes and works. The book indeed prompts a larger question: What does it take for anyone to risk his or her life for others? NavPress requested a second lifeboat-themed book although Nappa had not originally planned for one. He ultimately agreed and after further research, settled on a story that followed the era when the first English lifeboat had been invented. The new story, originally entitled, With Hearts Courageous, took place on the Isle of Man but was later renamed, Storm Survivors. These days, both books have been released by N.I.P.I. and Storm Warriors International Press. The two books are often packaged together, and entitled, The Storm Set. However, Storm Survivors succeeds as a stand alone novel loaded with sea-rescuing action, life-saving inspiration, and period romance. Both books continue to draw new readers and cultivate ongoing interest in the charitable work of Storm Warriors International. You can find out more about the not-for-profit organization at stormwarriors.org and may track other updates on this site by looking for the Storm Warriors tag on any of the pages or posts.

After further research, he ultimately wrote a story about Sir William Hillary and his continuation of the lifesaving tradition from the Isle of Man in the years following the original story. Today, Storm Survivors stands on its own as a moving historical novel that inspires readers to reconsider how genuine success might be defined. Many end up adding both books to their library so N.I.P.I. has packaged the two-book set as shown here.

The Logbooks of Admiral Jake is scheduled to be told over the span of 12 annually-released novels with many exciting surprises along the way. Each edition is already designed and will be handsomely bound with illustrations in every chapter. Easter 2020 brought the debut volume in e-book format and triggers the release schedule of one volume for each of the next 12 years. As the year continues, visit these pages for progressive glimpses into what the next volume (The Logbooks of the Ocean Void) promises to reveal. The kernel of inspiration for this series began many years ago while I was a young upstart in the motion picture industry. Simultaneously occurring at that time was an ongoing television series promoting an upcoming Amazon Expedition by the son of famed explorer, Jacques Cousteau. Much anticipation was built about what might be encountered. After waiting several months for the first documentary broadcast of the expedition, I was disappointed in the eventual presentation. It wasn't that the actual expedition wasn't interesting or fascinating or excellent in many ways - it was all of those things. However, it did not live up to my hoped-for and imagined expectations. Shortly thereafter, I began imagining what a jungle river adventure might be like if it truly turned out to be filled with fantastic adventure and out-of-this-world encounters. In time, my seed idea grew into an ocean-going series inspired by C.S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia, J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, the Cousteau Amazon Expedition and, of course, the larger questions of love, life, death and the hereafter. After all, like everyone of us, I found myself on a journey through life that would eventually include getting older, and for me that included getting married, having children, facing trials, embracing joyful triumphs, enduring tragic heartbreaks, at times feeling like it all made sense and smartly added up, and at other times feeling like I was lost in a fog or at the end of a precipice, wondering: where is it all going? what does it all mean? does it mean anything at all? and why is this so hard? And so, the Logbooks began... Please note. If viewing this E-Book on an Android phone, its best viewed with this FREE application. Google Play Books
